Why Amazon S3 Is Great If Used Correctly…
Amazon S3 stands for simple storage service. It’s scalable, reliable and fast. Plus it can be inexpensive. You pay nothing to sign up, you enter into no contracts, and you only pay for what you use…oh…and there is no “limit” that you can excced.
Sounds great right? Yes and no. It’s great because it can be cheap. Check out the US rates below…
But the problems…
There are several problems with using Amazon S3 though. Here are just some of them…
- It’s not easy to upload and manage files on Amazon S3
- It’s hard to share your files with only those who you give permission to
- The interface is not intuitive and intimidating to a first time user
- It’s easy for thieves to infiltrate your storage and make out with your content free of charge if you follow what most people out there are teaching
Of all these problems, the worst is this: people tell you that when you share your amazon files you should set your permissions so that everyone can read your file. If you do that though, it doesn’t stop someone from passing your paid content around the internet.
Or worse – if you leave your folders open (they’re called buckets in S3)… then they can find every file you have in that bucket. And sometimes even EVERYTHING you have on Amazon S3.
